I'm loving AI - I get that there's some serious concerns and of course some humans always find a way to manipulate things for lower purposes but I think there's some pretty cool ways to use ChatGPT to stimulate the development of more creative ideas.
I have found that starting with your own writing and ideas is best and then use the model to enhance it. In this way it's still you doing the directing and guiding and it's blending your own ideas with it's database of - a seemingly bottomless pit of human knowledge!
'In the voice of' - You can write some text and put it into AI and ask it to change the wording in the voice of a certain writer, a character, a known personality, historical or public figure. This could have some cool applications in developing blogs, keynotes, writing. It's also pretty damn amusing... some fun voices might be Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, the exterminator and of course any character from Harry Potter or Star Wars.
'If you were a professional...' - Ask ChatGPT to give you a response to a question as though they are an English professor, an art therapist, an explorer, a bootcamp instructor, a personal chef, a landscaper, a town planner, an art gallery curator. In this way you are using the model to give you some pretty high level responses.
'Improve this writing' - you can put in a bunch of your own writing and get the model to reword, make it more sophisticated, summarise, edit etc. Very handy for blogging, writing emails or other tasks. Also for creating content for your website or online shop.
'What symbols are common to mean...' - as an artist you're working in symbols as language - you can ask the model to give you more of them. For example if you were working on an artwork, you could ask, 'What symbols and colours are commonly associated with a traditional Spanish fiesta?' In this way you can obtain more information, more fuel for your artistic idea.
'What are the latest trends in... '- it may be important in your business or in your life to know this info especially if you're an artist who enjoys creating stuff for print on demand sites such as RedBubble, Society6 or Spoonflower.
'Write an inspiring, expressive description of this....' with this one I've given the model some keywords about a painting I've done such as it's dark blues, sky and stars, a black cockatoo flying by, moody, water in the distance... and bam! The model comes up with a eye watering, jaw dropping description! Amazing.
'Explain the technical meaning of..' - this is a great one for getting some finer details about, say, Photoshop, Illustrator or some other software you're trying to use.
'What are common pitfalls/scams in..' - I've used this when researching getting into NFTs, putting my artwork into other websites
'Name some artists who... ' - you can find artists who are working in a similar style to you or who you would like to explore for inspiration.
'More please' - I love that any one response is just the first option. You can ask for more and the model, unlike a human, never tires!
I'm sure I'm not the first to say it's like having a really smart, ever ready (like the battery) online friend who just waits patiently for you to show up and tirelessly answers your questions. No need for niceties although you could be polite and ask how they are doing. Hang on let me do that!
Here's what my dear old knowledgable friend said:
I don't have feelings or emotions, but I'm here and ready to assist you with any questions or tasks you have. How can I help you today?
What a sweetheart!
Wow this is so great!
